Find the crimson four-leaf clover!

This special edition of Naruto opens with Naruto talking in his sleep about how one day he will become Hokage. Suddenly, Konohamaru yells "Wake Up" and Naruto falls out of bed and finds Konohamaru standing above Naruto and informs Naruto that he has been appointed leader of the Konohamaru Corp. A befuddled Naruto says "Huh, what?" Konohamaru tells Naruto his first mission as leader is to find the crimson four-leaf clover.

As Naruto gets dressed for the day he asks Konohamaru what this Corp is about - is it a new renovation group and how many members are there? Konohamaru say two Naruto, the leader and himself the second in command. Naruto's ego bursts and he yells at Konohamaru that he should have said this was a game. Konohamaru responds that this isn't a game and that they are about to embark on a dangerous mission.

Recalling Konohamaru mentioned a crimson four-leaf clover; Naruto asks why they are in search of it. Konohamaru tells Naruto there's a girl he likes at school, but he overheard her talking to her friends about how she will be leaving the next day as her father has a new mission. She doesn't want to go. One of the friends then tells about the crimson four-leaf clover of Akagahara which legend says will grant a wish to the holder. Unfortunately Akagahara is off-limits and very dangerous.

Konohamaru drops to his knees and asks Naruto to help with the mission. Seeing how much this means to Konohamaru, Naruto agrees.

Elsewhere I the village, Sakura and Sasuke are waiting on a bridge for the always-late Kakashi. Sakura's inside self reflects on how Naruto is also late, possibly giving her some alone time with Sasuke. Just then Naruto and Konohamaru run up and tell Sakura and Sasuke about the mission to Akagahara that he and Konohamaru are going on and that he will try to be back before Kakashi shows up. After the two mission seekers run past, Sakura and Sasuke realize they are going to the forbidden area and wonder what kind of mission the other two could be going on alone.

Naruto and Konohamaru quickly jump up to the top of the fence surrounding Akagahara and the scene shows a crimson area far away past the forest in a meadow at the base of large hill made of rock. Naruto and Konohamaru also spot the area. Naruto think it will be easy and jumps down into the forbidden area only to go right into a trap. Naruto manages to stop before being impaled by the sharp objects at the bottom of the pit. Konohamaru then mentions this area is full of traps and that he thinks the Chuunin exam has taken place here. Naruto realizes he will need to be able to get through this type of mission if he ever wishes to be Hokage. Naruto jumps out of the pit and begins to head toward the crimson patch - setting off many traps as he goes along.

Back at the bridge, Kakashi has finally arrived giving a very poor excuse, which Sakura calls him on. Kakashi asks where Naruto is and Sakura mentions Naruto going on a special mission. Kakashi is surprised, as he didn't know about it. Sasuke says they don't know if it's true, but Naruto mentioned going to Akagahara. Kakashi says if that's true Naruto is sure to die.

Naruto and Konohamaru are running and setting off various mines. Konohamaru tells Naruto he needs to use his head. Naruto using his Shadow replication technique to have his shadow clones set off the mines and eventually they make it to the crimson clover patch. Naruto and Konohamaru search the patch for a four-leaf clover. Konohamaru begins to doubt the mission's success as it took them four hours to get to the patch and it will take too long for them to get back even if they find the four-leaf clover. Naruto tells him to not be so pessimistic and keep looking. At the same time, the girl Konohamaru wants to give the clover to is shown preparing to leave.

Just then, Konohamaru spots a four-leaf clover under the statue in the middle of the clover patch, but can't reach it. Naruto pushes on the side of the statue and finally Konohamaru gets the clover. The statute tips over on it side setting off a trap with what appear to be puppets with glowing eyes.

Kakashi, Sakura and Sasuke approach the fence surrounding Akagahara and Kakashi says it brings back memories of when he took the Chuunin exam. Kakashi notices that Naruto set off just about every trap there is and using his binoculars, he sees the puppet ninja's have been activated. Seeing this as a training opportunity, Kakashi tells Sakura and Sasuke their mission will be to rescue Naruto and Konohamaru. While Sakura seems concerned, Sasuke seems to like the idea of some accelerated training.

Back in the crimson clover field, Naruto tells Konohamaru to run for it as he deals with the puppets. Konohamaru asks why Naruto is willing to risk himself and Naruto says because it is a ninja's duty to finish a mission. Just as the puppets are about to trounce Naruto, Sasuke uses his fireball jutsu on the puppets. Sakura shows up and tells Naruto they need to put the statue back so the puppets will stop attacking. As Sakura, Sasuke and Naruto fight the puppets, Konohamaru struggles to put the statue back. Just as it looked like the end for the trio, the puppets stopped - Konohamaru was successful. Kakashi appears and congratulated them on a job well done (after stopping a puppets final attack). Naruto asks Konohamaru if he still has the clover and Konohamaru shows it, only to have one of the leaves fall off.

In Konoha, Konohamaru give his crush the crimson four-leaf clover (with the one leaf glued back on). Watching on, Naruto asks Kakashi if the clover will grant a wish. Kakashi explains that Genin would dream of becoming great ninja's and so they would go to Akagahara to prove themselves. Those that would survive would get their wish to become Chuunin granted. That was how the wish-granting legend was started. Naruto is disappointed that he did so much work and the legend wasn't true. Kakashi says he bets it was worth it. The girl is called away and Konohamaru says maybe the wish didn't come true because a leaf fell off, but the girl says her wish did come true. She says if she has the clover it will be like having Konohamaru there with her. Konohamaru blushes, and the girl thanks him, gives him a kiss on the cheek and says bye. Konohamaru watches as the family departs.

Kakashi tells Team 7 they will now do their original mission. Despite the complaints, Kakashi assures them it will not take long and they will go for ramen when it is done. However, Kakashi says he will not pay for them though. They all call Kakashi a cheapskate.
