Formation! New Team Kakashi

While Tsunade deliberates over finding new members for Team 7, Naruto clashes with Sai, who creates a series of beast paintings. They are destroyed when Shikamaru uses Kage Nui (Shadow Sewing) to pierce each of the paintings.

Elsewhere, Shizune returns to tell Tsunade that the elders wish to speak with her.

And as expected, Tsunade is pissed.

The elders have requested Tsunade’s presence in order to discuss a very important matter. It has already been shared with Shizune -which doesn’t help Tsunade, who’s already aggravated- so now Tsunade must hear the news: the elders do not want Naruto to be sent on any more missions outside of Konoha. They are certain that Akatsuki is making their move in order to capture Naruto since he is Konoha’s Jinchuuriki, so they also want Naruto to have guards with him at all times.

Tsunade figures that if the elders have already spoken with Shizune, they should know what her response is: a solid hell no.

After all, Akatsuki came after Gaara even when he was in his own village, so what’s to stop them from entering Konoha and doing the same to capture Naruto? If Naruto was always on the move, Akatsuki could not pinpoint his movements. The elders ask Tsunade whether or not she’s willing to take that big of a risk for the villagers, but looking back at the bet she made with Naruto before she became Hokage, Tsunade is willing to put her life as the Fifth Hokage on the line for the sake of the village.

Firm in her belief, Tsunade does not back down even when the argument heats up. The elders concede, but in exchange, they will pick one of the new members of Team 7.

In enters Danzou, but he is not the new member, even though Tsunade figured the member would be a member of ANBU’s Root.

Elsewhere, Naruto and Sai are locked in combat when Sai goes on the verbal offensive and questions whether or not Naruto has a…well, has his manhood. Even more embarrassed, Naruto pushes further, but Sai leaps back and escapes before Shikamaru’s shadow can connect with his.

Sai vanishes while Chouji and Shikamaru are left staring, but they are brought out of their trance when Ino appears behind them. Chouji tells her about the guy who attacked, but because he did not give a name, Ino at first thinks it’s Naruto before calling out his name.

Danzou is going to select one member for the new team, and since no one expected Kakashi to be out of commission for the mission, Tsunade has to choose the next member. Danzou suggests an experienced ANBU member, but because he does not respond when Tsunade asks if she’s free to pick whoever she wants, Tsunade elects to do just that.

An irritable Tsunade leaves the room with Shizune trailing behind. She tries to apologize for going behind Tsunade’s back and heading to the elders, but Tsunade isn’t upset over that; it’s that she has to choose a new member for Team 7 so soon. She was certain that she could send out an ANBU member that worked under her, but that may not be the case now.

Nonetheless, Tsunade still has plenty of questions for Shizune, but since choosing the new member for Team 7 is the top priority, Tsunade says that for now, she’s going to tear her a new one by working her ass off.

Sometime later, Tsunade meets her replacement, who she gives the name “Yamato,” who will replace Kakashi. Since this is a normal mission and not an ANBU one, “Yamato” has to remove his mask and be given a code name.

Back outside, Naruto meets up with Sakura and the two wait anxiously for their new team members, who appear later on. Yamato is taking Kakashi’s place, but Naruto is less than excited when he discovers that his new teammate is none other than Sai.
