Fruits of the Training

Naruto throws a slew of shuriken towards Kakashi, who counters by throwing his own. Before Naruto is hit, he uses a Kage Bunshin to throw him out of the shurkien’s path. The clone then transforms into a giant shuriken, but as Naruto prepares to throw it, Kakashi brings him to a halt, despite a Kage Bunshin coming behind him with a kunai at the ready. While Naruto has gotten better with his Kage Bunshins, he still is hasty and, just like before, he started way before Kakashi gave him the signal to begin. When Kakashi does give the signal to begin, he vanishes.

Begin episode.

In Sunagakure, Deidara remarks about how he won’t have to use his jutsu since Yuura remembers who Sasori is. Yuura walks the two past the dead soldiers and leads them into the edge of Suna. Deidara’s hand, which has been chewing on clay this entire time, produces a mold, which Deidara shapes into a miniature bird. After setting it on the ground, he forms two seals (Inu and Hitsuji) and the small bird grows considerably. Deidara’s plan is to attack from the sky and lure out Ichibi, the Shukaku’s Jinchuuriki: Sabaku no Gaara.

A considerable amount of time has passed since the test began, yet Naruto and Sakura haven’t made any progress. Since Kakashi isn’t around in their vision, Sakura, channeling an immense amount of chakra into her fist, punches the ground and creates a colossal crater. The thought that goes through Naruto and Kakashi’s mind right about now is probably ‘What the hell,’ but it’s no surprise since Sakura trained under Tsunade, possibly enough to even surpass her.

In Suna, Deidara spots only three guards watching the skies. He retreats to his bag and pulls out three clay spiders.

In his office, Gaara seems to sense a disturbance.

Back in Konoha, Kakashi conceals himself within some shrubbery and spots both Naruto and Sakura with his Sharingan, remembering to himself that a shinobi must hide without a single trace. Their tactics have changed from the first bell test, but Kakashi can’t dwell on that, as a flurry of kunai come his way. As before, he begins naming the three Shinobi tactics, starting with number one: Taijutsu. He charges towards Naruto and engages in hand to hand combat, but in comes Sakura, who tries throwing punch after punch. Knowing her strength, Kakashi knows it’s wise not to get hit even once. He dodges before her fist goes through a tree, concluding that if he hadn’t dodged, that could’ve turned out bad. Naruto creates Kage Bunshins, which Kakashi easily disposes of, except for the ones that jump in the air after him. Taking a page from Gai’s technique, Kakashi uses Omote Renge, yet even then, he still hasn’t taken care of the real Naruto.

The real one comes out of a bush from behind and prepares to use the same taijutsu ougi (special move) that Kakashi used on him before: Sennen Goroshi (Thousand Years of Death). This is also avoided and Kakashi is once again glad that he dodged that attack, but for a different reason. He begins to realize just how easy he had it back then when they first took the bell test because they were inexperienced, but now, looking at how well they work together, Kakashi will probably not get to read his Icha Icha Tactics anytime soon.

Moving along, Naruto uses Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu to create a massive amount of shadow clones. Despite being obviously outnumbered and having to contend with Sakura at the same time, Kakashi plows through the clones with ease.

Back in Suna, Deidara sends his three clay spiders down on the three guards. “Art is…a bang!” Deidara declares as the spiders detonate after latching onto the faces of the three guards.

More time has passed, and the duo of Sakura and Naruto haven’t gotten the bells. All of a sudden, they spot Sasuke, covered in kunai and badly beaten. He claims that he escaped from Orochimaru and asks for their help, and as touching as this may be to the two, it’s only a genjutsu.

Sakura spots Kakashi behind a tree, which quickly goes down due to Naruto’s Rasengan. When asked if he has anything to say, something he said to Sakura before, Kakashi sighs: “Shinobi Tactic #2: Genjutsu.”

Suddenly, Naruto sees the bells lying on the ground and goes for them, only to wind up in a trap and end up suspended by one leg in a rope. While it seems that Kakashi has gained the upper hand, it turns out that the Naruto in the rope is only a Kage Bunshin. The real Naruto comes from behind and actually scores a hit on Kakashi, but he quickly escaped through Kawarimi no Jutsu.

Some things never change.

Deidara disembarks from his bird, only to come face to face with Gaara, who simply tells Deidara that this is as far as he’ll get.
