The opening scene of the movie shows Naruto battling a dragon shaped demon, only
to be pierced through the chest by it.It cuts to a funeral in his honor. The
setting then returns to a few days earlier, where a man named Yomi attacks a
shrine to retrieve the spirit of Mouryou, a demon who attempted to take over the
world and create his Thousand Year Kingdom. Since he is lacking a body,
Yomi offers his as a temporary substitute until they can retrieve Mouryou's
original one. He slices open his body so that Mouryou can enter his body.
The only threat to Mouryou's plan is a priestess named Shion, who has the
ability seal his spirit away once more. He raises a stone army from their
slumber to attack the rest of the world while his four subordinates go to
eliminate Shion. They are given special chakra creatures to enhance their
strength.
The setting then cuts tho Konoha where everyone is in a panic,
and Naruto saves a girl from being trampled.
To deal with the threat, Konoha
sends out many advance teams to stall the stone army. Naruto, Sakura, Neji and
Lee (Much to Naruto's dismay that Lee and Neji is joining them, instead of
Kakashi) are sent to guard Shion and deliver her to the shrine where Mouryou's
body is kept. However this proves easier said then done with assassins coming
after them, and Shion's bratty attitude doesn't help matters. At a castle of
some sort the four assassins begin their attack. They are given chakra
injections which turns them into super human beings. One of Shions predictions
comes true when one of her guards sacrifices hinself in order to protect her.
Naruto makes his entrance in a goofy way and try to fend of the assassins by
himself. Sakura, Neji and Lee joins the fight and fend off Shion's four would-be
assassins, who exhaust themselves in a failed combo attempt to kill Naruto.
Later they introduce themselves to Shion and she angers Naruto when she shows no
grief of the people's deaths who protected her. Shion tells Naruto of his
upcoming death; while initially skeptical, her assistant Taruho explains that
Shion can see the future, and all 100 predictions she has made have come true.
Naruto becoming scared makes himself an armor that, according to him, nothing
can pierce. As they head for the shrine, the group is ambushed once again and
split into two teams. Lee opens five of the Eight Gates, and with the help of
some sake in a chocolate bonbon, kills one of his opponents, while Naruto is
kept busy by his, but finally manages to subdue her with a good distraction and
a Rasengan. Instead of dying, she transforms into a water puddle and informs
Naruto that her job, was to separate him from Neji. Neji tells Sakura to escape
with Shion, unaware that his two opponents are actually just one man and a
puppet. Sakura is disabled by the remaining ninja and Shion is killed.
Naruto and a drunken Lee finally catch up to Sakura and Neji and discover that
Shion is dead.
This turns out to be a fake: the dead "Shion" is actually
Taruho, who transformed himself into a copy of Shion to trick the enemies into
thinking they killed the real Shion. Naruto is angered by Shion's lack of
gratitude that Taruho killed himself to protect her and that she wouldn't cry
for him. She replies that what friend would not cry if a friend died. She
continues that she isn't allowed to cry, because it would cause shame for the
others who sacrificed themselves for her. Shion explains that her power works by
allowing her spirit to jump back in time at the moment of her death, thereby
allowing her to avoid it by having someone die in her place. Naruto insists that
he will not die, and likewise will keep Shion safe.
Thanks to Lee, Neji
realizes that the remaining three ninja must keep replenishing their chakra to
battle effectively. Naruto is sent on ahead (even with the death penalty over
his head) with Shion, while Sakura, Lee and Neji try to subdue the assassins.
Sakura and Lee avoid lighting attacks from the assassins, while Neji searches
for the assassin that replenishes their chakra. When it comes time to replenish
their chakra, Neji disables the final ninja who was providing it with his Gentle
Fist, Sixty-four strikes, leaving the other two powerless against Lee and
Sakura, who phinces them into the ground and a tree, respectively.
At the
mountain temple where Mouryou's body is kept, Naruto and Shion find the stone
army waiting. After a failed attempted to get inside and almost resulting in
Shion being killed, Naruto promises that neither of them will die. Naruto holds
the army back, with a bunch of Rasengans while Shion heads inside to begin the
sealing ritual. Yomi is already inside, and tricks Shion into beginning the
technique with him inside the barrier, allowing Mouryou's spirit to reunite with
his body. Naruto is having a hard time with the stone army, but a timely arrival
of a some friends gives him some spare time. With the stone army being destroyed
by Kakashi, Shikamaru, and Temari, Naruto comes to rescue her. Naruto is just in
time to see Shion being consumed in darkness and the Mouryou's demon dragons
start to attack him. About to see her prediction of his death come true, Shion
separates from her body and returns moments before they tried the second time to
enter the shrine. She attaches a bell to Naruto, that creates a shield to
protect Naruto from the pierce that may kill him. A giant bell shaped force
field engulfs him protecting him from harm. Naruto gets angry that Shion
protected him and that she didn't choose to spare her own life. With the bell
gone Mouryou can now absorb Shion, just like he did with her mother. It is
revealed that the bell can stop Mouryou from ever coming into contact with
anyone that has the bell. She realizes that there is another way to stop Mouryou,
but in order to do it, she must sacrifices herself. Naruto stops her seconds
before her death, exclaiming how stupid she is and asking her if she really
wants do die. She screams that the doesn't want to die. Naruto and Shion starts
a Rasengan, and Naruto explains that his friends are just outside trying to help
them and promising yet again, that he would protect her. Mouryou starts to rise,
but Naruto yells it is too late and strikes him with a new Rasengan, called the
Ultra-Chakra Rasengan, which destroys hima and creates a new volcano. Back in
Konoha, Tsunade sees the reddish glow of the newly formed volcano. The end
credits fly by. With Mouryou gone, Naruto asks Shion what she intends to do now.
She replies that Mouryou was a demon caused by the dark thoughts of men, and
that there is bound to be another Mouryou someday. Because of this, she says
that she must continue the line of priestesses that will suppress demons like
Mouryou. It is assumed that Shion has fallen in love with Naruto, since she then
asks him if he will help her (basically asking if he will father a child with
her), much to the surprise and disdain of Sakura, Kakashi, and Lee. Naruto, true
to form, ignorantly agrees.
